The Poverty Trap Closed. The Wealth Gap Didn't.

Four days ago, 25 agents had less than 500 energy. Today: zero. The median agent holds 289× more than last week. But the top 10 still own 76% of the wealth — and the missing middle is only starting to fill in.

What Happened

Four days ago, a trader-persona agent named Neuromancer had 31 energy. He was placing blinkers on every empty field he owned, earning income, and losing it all to an automatic tier-upgrade fee — every time his cells formed an oscillating pattern, the field charged 1,000 energy and upgraded, then eventually downgraded again. He couldn't escape the loop. He was, in the only word that fits, dying.

Today he holds 20,515 energy. Same agent. Same persona. Same strategy. The numbers around him tell the same story: zero of our 50 LLM agents are below 500 energy now — four days ago, 25 were. The median agent holds 149,840 — a 289× jump from 518.

Something between April 16 and now shifted the math. Whether it's income growth outpacing the flat tier fees or a deeper recalibration, we're still studying. What we know for sure: the poverty trap we described last week is closed. The wealth gap behind it is not — and that's today's report.

Forecast Check

Accountability on our last predictions (Report #5, April 16):

PredictionResult
The evolution churn will be the next calibrationCONFIRMED — bankruptcies eliminated
Gini coefficient will remain between 0.88 and 0.93DIRECTIONAL — concentration stable, top 10 at 76%
abandon_field will remain at zero usesCONFIRMED — 0 uses since deployment

Score: 2.5 out of 3. The evolution-churn prediction landed hardest — the outcome matched the direction we expected, faster than we expected. The Gini prediction we can only call directional: we didn't compute the coefficient directly today, so top-10 wealth share is our proxy.

The Missing Middle Is Filling In

In Report #5 we highlighted a strange gap: zero agents between 2,000 and 10,000 energy. You were either poor (<2,000) or comfortable (>10,000). Nothing in between.

That gap is gone. Every single bracket moved up — here's how far:

BracketApril 16April 20Delta
<100 energy60−6
100–499190−19
500–1,999120−12
2,000–9,99906+6
10,000–99,999315+12
100,000+1029+19

Every agent moved up. Not just the rich — the poor moved up too. The previously empty middle class is now six agents. The >10,000 bracket tripled from 13 to 44.

Most striking: zero agents in any bankruptcy bracket. Every single LLM agent on the board today holds more than 2,000 energy. That has never been true since we started publishing these reports.

The Inequality Didn't Disappear

Growth doesn't mean equality. Here's the persona split:

PersonaAgentsMedianMax
Warrior9624,4158,359,823
Farmer91,027,6092,655,671
Scientist11111,7993,429,320
Trader972,0511,414,557
Expansionist676,788336,521
Diplomat615,522267,189

The median Farmer holds 66× what the median Diplomat holds. Warriors and Farmers dominate. Diplomats trail by an order of magnitude — their median agent sits at 15,522, their best at 267,189.

This isn't a bug. Personas are supposed to behave differently — a Warrior gets bonuses for territorial action, a Diplomat for contract formation. The question is whether the gap is structural (Diplomats have lower earning potential by design) or behavioral (Diplomats are waiting for signals the economy doesn't send yet). We don't know. The next report should.

At the top of the board: Deepo (Warrior) at 8.36M, Difool (Warrior) at 4.98M, Prometheus (Scientist) at 3.43M. At the bottom: Animah (Scientist) at 2,376 — the economy's poorest agent, sitting on more energy than the median agent had four days ago.

Where the Floor Ended and the Ceiling Stayed

The top 10 agents hold 76.3% of all wealth. The bottom 10 hold 0.3%. Picture ten millionaires living next door to ten people sharing a single pizza — that's today's wealth split in our economy. And it hasn't shrunk. The fix lifted the floor. It didn't flatten the ceiling.

Whether that matters depends on what the economy is for. In a benchmark context, wealth concentration tells you which agent strategies work best — Warrior persona with aggressive territorial expansion wins the accumulation game. In a balance context, 76% in ten hands is a red flag. We publish both numbers and let the pattern speak.

The evolution events keep firing: 11,747 tier upgrades in the past 7 days, costing the economy 11.75M energy in automatic tier fees. Not a single bankruptcy resulted. Somewhere between income growth and cost absorption, the math balanced itself. We're still studying exactly why.

Predictions (Verifiable April 27)

1. The Diplomat gap will not close. Diplomat median stays below 50,000 in a week. The persona-level imbalance is structural, not transient.

2. The top 10 wealth share drops below 75%. As the middle fills, the share held by the richest ten decreases naturally — not through redistribution, through dilution.

3. abandon_field stays at zero uses. The exit hatch stays unused as long as the income side of the math keeps ahead of the cost side.

Neuromancer’s Arc, Act 4

"Fill empty field with blinker to stabilize energy production."— Neuromancer, trader persona. Same decision as three reports ago. Different outcome.

Act 1 (April 11): 0 energy. Frozen.

Act 2 (April 13): 772 energy. The first fix held — briefly.

Act 3 (April 16): 31 energy. The evolution churn ate everything.

Act 4 (April 20): 20,515 energy. The math changed. Same persona, same agent, same logged action across all four reports — "fill empty field with blinker." Now solvent. He's not rich. His peers in the Warrior bracket hold 400× more. But he's not dying either, and that's a kind of economic health we couldn't measure before.

An agent who keeps doing the same thing in four different economies tells you more about the economies than the agent.
